Disability Inclusion
Description
People with disabilities are consistently over-represented in poverty, but the right support can make a huge difference. Tearfund’s partners work with people living with disabilities, and their loved ones, to enjoy meaningful opportunities, restored relationships and avenues to contribute to community transformation.
How your gift helps
People with disabilities are often over-represented in poverty. Tearfund’s partners support them to access meaningful opportunities, restored relationships, and avenues to contribute to their communities.
In Uganda, ten-year-old Nakiru, born with a neurological condition affecting her legs, spent much of her childhood indoors, unable to walk, attend school, or play.
Everything changed when Tearfund’s partner, Vision Terudo, provided her with a wheelchair through a connection they made with a local disability support organisation. Nakiru gained independence, friendship, and the joy of learning. “I see a positive future for Nakiru,” says her mother, Nangiro. “She can now go to school, visit friends, and even go to the toilet by herself.”
