Stories of Hope
See how your gift helps
Every item in TEAR's Gift Catalogue represents a contribution to a long-term poverty-fighting project run by one of TEAR Australia's Christian partners. Each project is tailored to that community's needs, helping people gain the skills and resources they need to address local problems and come up with sustainable solutions.
These are just some of their stories.
Marquina’s hopes for Tomorrow
TEAR’s partner Oasis in Mozambique is working alongside the local church to improve the health and wellbeing of communities in the Manga Loforte area of the port city Beira.
“Care groups” of local women are learning about important health and hygiene messages. They’re becoming health activists in their communities, sharing what they’ve learnt with others and sparking change.
Marquina Rondao is one of these women. We visited her in her community in March this year. Here she shares her story, and her hopes for a better tomorrow for her family and her community.
Rosilia is a truly inspiring woman – a hard-working farmer who puts in long hours to try to work her way out of poverty. Rosilia previously broke rocks for a living, with a sledge hammer and chisel breaking large boulders into smaller stones for use in construction. The sort of back-breaking work that the body cannot long sustain. So, it was with real excitement that a few years ago this middle-aged woman was able to put down her hammer and become part of an agricultural project operated by TEAR’s partner World Relief Mozambique. Watch this video for her story.
