Poverty creates many challenges for mums and babies. Tearfund’s Christian partners are helping them to overcome these hurdles and thrive.

In the remote hillside villages of northern Laos, where infant and child mortality rates are the highest in the country, women like Cher Sa (pictured) have been supported throughout their pregnancy and beyond by Tearfund’s partner World Renew Laos. Rather than giving birth at home, which is the experience of many mothers in her community, Cher Sa delivered her son at a health centre. Community health volunteers supported her with antenatal care, education on nutrition and access to health facilities.
