Chanda (pictured right) lives with her family in a remote village in Pakistan. They faced extreme poverty and instability before Chanda undertook training as a traditional Birth Attendant with Tearfund’s partner, the Diocese of Hyderabad.

Chanda’s purpose has transformed as she travels to nearby villages to support safe deliveries and maternal care. She recalls helping a mother who had previously suffered a miscarriage due to lack of access to maternal health care. With Chanda’s support the mother was able to deliver a healthy baby girl. For Chanda, the baby's first cry symbolizes hope, resilience, and the impact of empowered community health workers.
