How Does It Work?

Watch the video to see how it works.

Every item in this Gift Catalogue is part of and contributes to a long-term program designed to give communities skills and resources to walk the long road out of poverty.

For example, if you purchase fish farming, an organic vegetable garden, food security, a goat, a small business loan, sewing & weaving skills, a rice bank or a heifer, TEAR Australia will allocate your tax-deductible donation to one of our local partner organisations in the countries listed. They will use it to help fund agriculture and livelihood development projects. These programs enable families in poor and marginalised communities to acquire the skills and resources to support themselves sustainably, through agriculture, animal husbandry, savings groups, microfinance and vocational training.

The gifts of eye care, safe water, family health care, village health worker or birth attendant training, a toilet, HIV care and education and a well all contribute to projects that promote community health. Programs like this are designed to improve maternal and child wellbeing, control infections diseases and improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities.

The purchase of school supplies, literacy skills, primary schooling or a community school will help fund the work of TEAR's partners in the areas of children's, youth and adult education.

Choose human rights or a women's self-help group and you'll be assisting projects dedicated to strengthening civil society. Peace-building and conflict transformation, gender equality, civil rights training and the protection of children at risk are some of the many activities that fall into this category.

Finally, the gift of tree seedlings will make a vital contribution to the work of TEAR's partners in building a sustainable environment. This significant area includes watershed management, preparing for and responding to natural disasters and appropriate development.
