Safe Water
$25.00
Give a family or community the gift of safe water. Clean water is an essential for a healthy life. Help provide a household with safe water for drinking, washing and watering vegetables.
Gifts and donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
Should the number of items sold or the funds raised exceed the amount needed for the projects these gifts are intended to fund, TEAR Australia will redirect donations to similar development work.
This gift gives a family or community the gift of safe water and/or sanitation. It could contribute towards a new borehole or water system, or improved sanitation for a village. Many projects include training to ensure changes are sustainable and long-term.
Wellspring of hope in Tanzania
This little girl, from Buhemba village in Tanzania, can now enjoy safe drinking water from a new borehole, drilled as part of a project run by TEAR partner the Buhemba Rural Agricultural Centre (BRAC). Before, the community had to walk long distances to access fresh clean water, or source contaminated water from nearby streams or lakes, which they shared with livestock.
As part of this project, BRAC helps to train a water committee from the village, including a technician, to manage the borehole and ensure it’s maintained well. Having a safe and reliable water supply close by means more time can be spent in school or making a living, which benefits the community in the long term.
About our partner – BRAC (Buhemba Rural Agricultural Centre)
BRAC was established in 1993 as part of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, Diocese of Mara. It helps the poorest of the poor in the communities it serves. Its “Empowering Communities for Better Livelihood and Environment” project involves training for farmers in groups around improved water access, goat rearing, vegetable growing, bee-keeping, fish farming, constructing fuel-efficient stoves, tree planting and seedling production. All of the project’s activities are designed to preserve the environment.
